How it all began

We (my wife and I) started moving to Italy
back in 2021.

The most difficult part was the constant search for information:
chats, Yandex, communication in direct messages

In 2022, we took a trip and drove from Moscow to Italy, spending 40 days there. We traveled along the entire coast from Bari to Liguria with the goal of choosing our first place to live.

In late September 2022, we started working on the residence permit, and after 4 months, I received the D visa.

After that, I decided it was time to gather and structure all the information and start blogging.

The problem is not only that you need to spend a lot of time, but also that people often provide contradictory information.

That’s why we share information so that if you or your loved ones want to follow our path, it will be much easier for you to do so.

We are a family of 3:
Galya (32 years old), Dima (34 years old),
Eva (3 years old), and Kuki — our micro-dog.
All Russian citizens.

I have an IT studio Gensol, and I have been working remotely for over 10 years. The money comes to a Russian LLC, Galina's individual entrepreneur, and after February 24, also to a Georgian individual entrepreneur. I am also involved in development and plan to build cottage settlements in Italy (and not only).

My wife and I work together. Before the pandemic, she ran Russian Cooking classes. She taught foreigners how to cook Russian food and shared about our culture.
We were featured in a report on BBC.

And how did it happen that we decided to move to Italy?

Let us tell you more

A couple of years ago, we realized that we wanted to live by the sea in a hilly area. Somewhere with lots of sunshine and a pleasant climate.

Agree, many countries fit this description. Another important criterion was the proximity to Russia, cultural similarities, and the country's development direction. Therefore, in the end, we only considered coastal European countries.

Living in Russia, it was impossible not to understand

that a smooth departure might not be possible. The collapse of the ruble, constant conflicts (we don't want to delve into politics), and in the homeland, something is always happening that complicates life.

The older you get, the harder it is to leave.

The illusion of "I'll build a huge safety cushion, organize the entire moving process" – in reality, it comes up against the fact that it’s impossible to fully prepare for moving. But one thing is certain: you will get older (weaker, more ill).

The conclusion is quite simple:
now is the best time!

1st important stop:

Astrakhan

My grandmother and half-brother live there

Tbilisi

There we opened a self-employed business and a bank account

Then 3 weeks in:

Batumi

Eva even went to kindergarten there

After that, 3 weeks traveling through:

All of Turkey

A very beautiful, diverse country

Then we went to:

Greece

We took a ferry to Italy

And finally:

Italian Bari

A port city on the Adriatic Sea coast

In March 2022, we received a Schengen visa, on April 1st we got in the car (me, Galya, Eva, and our dog Kuki) and started a 4-month journey.

And our 40-day trip began to find the district of our dreams

Bari, Brindisi, Lecce, Tricase, Taranto, Catanzaro, Reggio Calabria, Messina, and 2 loops around Sicily

At first, we couldn't figure out where we liked more :)
We stayed longer in Ceglie Messapica and Jara. Then we moved to the mainland and headed north.

The most beautiful water we've seen in Italy is in Scilla.

But what we liked the most was the idea of
living 1.5 hours away
from Catania or Genoa!

What else do we want to say

We have one of the simplest and most straightforward
cases for relocation:

a family in a legal marriage, a child together, a remote IT business + relevant education,
self-employed abroad (Georgia)

But many of our acquaintances are afraid to relocate...

and there are reasons for this:

It's difficult to leave a not fully automated business, fear due to language barriers, children. In the end, they either do nothing at all or choose a temporary country until it “blows over”.

We understand your fears.

That's why we will share stories of our new acquaintances who have gone through a difficult journey and risked a lot to relocate.
