What are the timelines
From the start of document collection to receiving the D visa and the ability to enter Italy takes about 4 months.

Requirements for residence permit extension:
Permanent Residence and Citizenship
After 5 years from the first residence permit, you can obtain permanent residence (PR). For this, you need to:

- Be absent from Italy for no more than 10 months in total during the 5 years
- Know the Italian language at an A2 level
After 10 years from the first residence permit, you can apply for citizenship. There is
no need to renounce your original citizenship.
