Permanent residence permit and citizenship

Five years after the first residence permit it is possible to obtain a permanent residence permit. To do so, you need to:

  1. Pay taxes
  2. Abide by the law
  3. Not be absent from Italy for more than 10 months in total over 5 years
  4. Know the Italian language at A2 level

Ten years after the first residence permit it is possible to obtain citizenship. There is no need to renounce your original citizenship.
